The Amazon Kindle Fire was announced on the 28th September 2011. It is a new 7" Tablet PC and follows on from the original Amazon Kindle. It will run on the Forked version of the Google Android operating system. Hoping to rival the Apple iPad 2 it will come in at a price of about €150 in Ireland.

It’s features include a 7 inch IPS display (1024 x 600 pixel resolution), Dual-core processor, 8GB internal memory, weighing 14.6 ounces, Wi-Fi connectivity, up to 8 hours of battery life for continuous reading and 7.5 hours of video playback, the “Silk” internet browser, USB 2.0, and integration with Amazon services such as Amazon Instant Video, Cloud Drive and Amazon App Store.

On the down side it does not feature an embedded camera or microphone.

It launched to an amazing start with sales figures beating estimates for the last quarter of 2011. 5.5 million units were sold which beat sales estimates of 4.5 million.
